~The name Krampus comes from the word kramp that means claw.

~Originally Krampus was a purel

y pagan creature said to be the son of Hel (yes I spelled it like that on purpose) from Norse mythology

~Krampus is often depicted with heavy chains which might be a reference to the Christian attempt to "bind the devil" . In this case children , which is so accurate.

~There are many different methods of punis ment Krampus uses, rainging from gentle ones , such as beating with birchrod & pulling ears , to brutal practices like leading kids off cliffs ,putting them in shackles or even drowning them in ink.

~In the 1930's, the Krampus tradition was prohibited in Austria . The prohibition was proposed by the Catholics. They thought that it was too traumatizing for children. The citizens basically ignored that and went on celebrating Krampus.
